Mould is an umbrella term for all microscopic fungi that spread by hyphae. They are found all around us and can be beneficial, such as making foods like cheese, or harmful, such as toxic spores.
Some good news:
Mould can help break down and degenerate certain plastics by growing and spreading mycelium throughout the plastic waste, secreting enzymes that break down the plastic polymers into simpler compounds. As mycelium grows, it decomposes the plastic.
