BIODIVERSITY

Biodiversity is the basis for all life on Earth. It means that life is rich in variation within and between species and habitats, a prerequisite for well-functioning ecosystems and nature’s services. Small animals, plants and fungi are essential for maintaining biodiversity.

The Small Animals section provides information on insects, which are essential to the entire ecosystem and growing food. You can also read about how plants use photosynthesis to create oxygen and glucose and the importance of fungi as decomposers in the biological cycle.
