ABOUT

Biodiversity
Edge of Earth with the light from the horisone and black background

ReThink provides a detailed overview, helping you understand how textile materials affect nature and our ecosystems by biological touchpoints.

Under Textiles, you will find information about the methods used in producing clothes. For example, what do the different materials consist of, and how do these affect our nature? We look into the cultivation of crops used to make textiles, such as cotton, hemp, flax and trees. It also includes animal farming, e.g. sheep to obtain wool, and the extraction and use of crude oil. Crude oil is the raw material for most synthetic fibres, including polyester, polyamide, acrylic and elastane. Large amounts of various chemicals are required to achieve different colours and obtain the right finish of the fabric.

Under Biodiversity, you will find information about Earth’s Biodiversity, how it regulates the climate, and how we rely on it for food, energy, sustaining air quality, fresh water and healthy soil.

Under Earth, you will find information about the Earth’s spheres, including the biosphere and ecosystems, and insights into how the textile industry affects and extracts Earth’s resources.
