Ascomycetes, commonly referred to as sac fungi, constitute one of the two main divisions within our group of edible fungi. Notable families within this division include morels and truffles, characterized by the storage of spores within specialized structures known as asci rather than the basidia microstructures. For example, we classify bowl fungi and morels as members of the Ascomycetes family.
