The textile knowledge pages at ReThink give you the whole picture of how fabrics affect our nature and ecosystem. As you will soon understand, textile materials touch vast parts of the biological system.
Under Earth, you will find information about the spheres of Earth, The biosphere/ecosystem and more about the textile industry and resource extraction.
Under Textiles, you will find information on how the production of clothes is followed. For example, what do different materials consist of, and how do these affect our nature? We look into the cultivation of crops such as cotton, hemp, flax and trees. It also includes animal farming, e.g. sheep to obtain wool, and extraction and use of crude oil. Crude oil is the raw material for most synthetic fibres, including polyester, polyamide, acrylic and elastane. To bring out the right colours and the finishing of the fabric, different types of preparations are carried out that require large amounts of various chemicals.
Under Biodiversity, you will find information about the Earth’s biodiversity, how it regulates the climate, and how we rely on it for food, energy, sustaining air quality, fresh water and healthy soil.
